I am in Gatlinburg, TN this week at the Impact Youth Conference.  It has already been such a phenomenal week.  Over 1850 teens and youth workers are here at the conference.  I help every year with this conference and it is such wonderful opportunity for me to give back.  I remember all my years as a teenager and the wonderful opportunities that God gave me.  I could take you back to many places and show you where I knelt and made an important decision for Christ.

Today I spoke to over 900 girls at one of the sessions.  It is always such a thrill for me to get to talk to them during the week.  These are important times and it’s so imperative that our teens make the right choices in their lives.  They were a great group of girls and they listened well.  Many of them came forward and made a decision to be pure in heart.  I pray that they carry that decision with them back home and back to school in the next few weeks and months.  I would encourage you to pray for the teenagers that you know.  Many of them start school this month.  They need to do the right thing and make the right choices this school year.

I love to read.  I thought it might be interesting to share with you what I am reading currently.  If you have read the book or have any feedback I would love to hear from you.

I just finished “Hidden in Plain Sight” by Mark Buchanan (one of my favorite authors).  I love Mark because his writing style is so easy to read and has such a creative flow to it.  Although I have to pull out my dictionary every now and then to find out what in the world a word means.  His unique word choices keep you on your toes.  In this book, Mark talks about the desire for more.  He examines a wonderful passage in second Peter, where Peter helps us find the secret of more.  In looking for more we find that more has already arrived like a package at our doorstep and we have yet to open it.  Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book.  “Doing good is usually more attractive to us than being good.  Wanting to know what good thing we must do often strikes us as more urgent, and certainly more manageable, than knowing the one who is good.”

It’s hot!  It’s July so it’s suppose to be.  Chattanooga is blanketed almost every afternoon with this steamy haze from the heat.  Then the storms come.  I live near the mountains so the thunder bounces off the mountains like drum beats.  The lightening slashes through the dark clouds as the storm rolls around the hills.  I actually enjoy a good thunder storm.  I like sitting out on my back porch swing and watching it roll in.  The air changes and the temperature drops a few notches as the wind picks up and the trees begin to sway.  The birds grow silent just as the leaves begin to rustle with a vengeance.  I can usually see the rain coming.  What appears to be a moving blanket containing millions of drops of water begins to move my way.  I sit there as long as possible.  As I feel the first large drops hit the pavement I make a mad dash toward the house.  Most of the time the storm is short-lived and moves fast as it leaps the mountains and moves on but it usually leaves us right back where we started –hot!!

This past Saturday we had the board meeting for Reba Bowman Ministries.  It is always amazing to me to see the team that God has put together.  Men and women who love this ministry and love Jesus.  I love getting together with God’s people and praising Him for His goodness, thanking Him for His blessings, and dreaming about what He would have us do in future days and years.  I realize more and more every day that I am so inadequate to do His work.  Fortunately, God has surrounded me with people who love women’s ministry, who love working with teens and who are very skilled in many areas.  I am still praying for others, who have skills in areas that I lack, to come along side and partner with this ministry.  Only God knows what He will lead us to do for Him.
