December 15, 2007      The Wrong Reba

Okay, this was just too good to pass up!  I have to tell you about an e-mail I got the other day.  A sweet little girl sent me an e-mail.  She started her e-mail off by telling me I was the greatest female singer on earth.  Since I don’t really do that much singing except around the house and in my car, I wondered how she could know of my hidden talent!  She went on to tell me that she watches my show almost every night.  At this point it dawned on me -- she thought I was Reba McEntire.

This was a first for me.  I have never been mistaken for the petite red-head who has topped the country music charts and has her own television show as well as a new line of clothing.  Which got me to thinking; I wonder if she has ever gotten an e-mail from someone thinking they were writing me?  After laughing at myself for quite some time for that ridiculous thought, I decided to write the poor girl back and tell her she had the wrong Reba.

It’s hard to believe that Christmas time is almost here.  For the first time in many years I have completed my Christmas shopping before Christmas Eve.  I am very excited.  I am looking forward to slowing down a little and spending some quality time with my family and friends this holiday season.

However, right now, the ministry is anything but slowing down.  This past weekend I was in Beech Island, SC at Amazing Grace Baptist Church.  The temperature was a balmy 74 degrees and not a snow flake in sight.  I had a wonderful time with the ladies there.  God really worked in lives as we talked about what it really means to have a merry heart.  At this time of year we spend a lot of time singing songs about Joy but do we really have that long-lasting, enduring type of joy?  It can only come from a relationship with Christ.  We have to be so careful that we don’t substitute any other relationship for that relationship.

At this special time of year it would do us all good to inspect our lives closely.  What is our relationship with Christ like?  If you find you don’t have a relationship with Him at all then please call or email us and let us talk to you about starting that walk with the Lord.  That is the reason that we celebrate this Christmas season.  We celebrate the fact that Christ came to earth to be born as a baby in a manger so that He could one day pay the price for our sins on a cruel cross.

If you have trusted Christ as your Savior, then make sure that good things are not taking the place of your personal walk with Him.  Church is a wonderful thing but if we are not careful we can substitute our church attendance for our personal time with Him.  If we are to have real joy it will not come from anything under the tree.  Jesus gives us the joy we seek.

Welcome to our blog!  If you have no idea what a "blog" is don't worry because I am still learning about so much of this myself.  But I do love the way God has given us technology so we can keep up with each other.  Hopefully that is exactly what this part of the Web site will allow us to do.  The ministry blog will be filled with up to date stories and exciting details of what has happened in meetings and the exciting things God is doing on a weekly basis in the ministry.  It is my desire that you will come back on a regular basis and check out what is happening.  I hope this will be a great source of encouragement to you as well as an opportunity for you to know how to pray for us more specifically.
