But I Don't Feel Like It
"Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior." Habakkuk 3:18 We are all familiar with the phrase "Be joyful", but today was a day where I said, "But I don't feel like it." Like many of you, some of my loved ones suffer with bad health, and today's bad news contained the word "lump." I just wanted to say, "Enough is enough. Will there ever be a break? How can one rejoice with news like that?" In the book of Habakkuk, I discovered Habakkuk was hearing some really bad news about the nation of Israel. People were about to be taken captive by the Babylonians. Those who were left in Jerusalem would experience a severe famine. The city would be destroyed. Many people did not want to believe the prophets when they foretold this destruction, and some people wanted literally to kill the messenger. But Habakkuk heard the news and wrote a song, Habakkuk 3. As I read the song, I realized that Habakkuk was not rejoicing in the coming doom. He was rejoicing in his Sovereign Lord. He was thankful that the Lord would give him the strength to get through this horrible time. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where the word "rejoice" is not in our vocabulary, and we don't feel like rejoicing. But we can rejoice that Our LORD will walk with us through those situations step by step. He will even carry us if needed. "The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights." Habakkuk 3:19
